Curse of spring marathons. Marathon Amstelveen, April 2, 2017

Despite the fact that all this was already in South park my Instagram, I’ll talk about the traditional unsuccessful spring marathon, this time the Amstelveen marathon.

I found out about this event after autumn marathon last October from his acquaintance on instagram / strava (who ultimately won this race) and decided to register. The decisive factors were that you don’t have to go far, it’s inexpensive and is carried out for the very first time (and who knows, maybe for the first and only time). In general, registered and began training.

He prepared traditionally according to the 26-week Q2 plan from the DD, but began in the 24th week. The season is low, so I trained without fanaticism. There was no injury, but all kinds of signals in the limbs and other backs periodically arose and disappeared. In general, everything went pretty straight, without big passes:

In the preparation process, there were several intermediate starts, each of which ended with a new PB: Scholten Awater Zevenheuvelenloop - 15 km Vondelparkloop - 10 km Groet uit Schoorl Run - 30 km NN CPC Loop Den Haag - 21 km

In general, despite the sensations after the pre-marathon half marathon, there were good chances that everything would go as it should. The maximum program was 2:56, the fallback was from 2:59.

The weather forecast was favorable - they promised about + 15 degrees (although I would prefer no more + 13), no rain was planned, but you don’t have to count on calm in our area - never no wind in The Netherlands. By the start day, I had already run over the new adidas Adizero Boston Boost, investing hundreds and a half kilometers in them, so everything was clear with the clothes:

On the appointed morning, 2 hours before the start, in vain fearing the floors and parking problems, he arrived at the start point - AV Startbaan Stadium. The parking was empty, only volunteers pulled together, the starting gate was installed, and so on. In general, one could not rush. The next hour and a half I walked around the stadium, breathed and watched the participants arrive.

A little cracked with his acquaintance. Dude was very surprised that I took only 4 gels on the flight. He usually, when he runs to the result, uses 7-8 pieces. He took so much this time, but his friend was with him on a bicycle, and he had a different level of time, around 2:46. I wanted to put another one just in case, but I decided that I still would not need it. But this time I handed over the phone with things.

In general, then there was a mass warm-up and start. There were very few people - only about 170 people registered for the marathon. Probably more on the half marathon. Plus were the rails at both distances. At the start, without a fight, we managed to stand right in front of the ribbon:

In 10 seconds, they began to count together the time and ran. A man with a gun hesitated something and the start sounded as if in the back: - )

We ran half the circle through the stadium, after which we went on free swimming in the meadow:

The first kilometer succumbing herdsocial feeling, ran noticeably faster than the target pace, somewhere around 3:50 min / km, but then reached the normal pace 4:06 - 4:12 ( depending on the wind ) and fled. There is no crowd, almost the audience. The first 10 km ran through the fields, the next 7 along the river. From time to time, the lenses of photographers were visible from the bushes:

Most of the route ran along the road with bicycle paths on the sides. Since it was a day off with excellent weather, pelotons of cyclists periodically appeared on the way, first, as it were, not intending to give way to a lonely dude running around the meeting. But when they saw the number on the chest and the serious expression, they still shifted to the side. The volunteers, interestingly, placed their tables of water on the other side of the road, although before me and after me (to where there was enough eyes) people ran on the opposite side.

At the 24th kilometer they ran into Amsterdam Bos. Everything became even more interesting here: the walking people increased markedly and numerous intersections appeared, at which it was completely incomprehensible where to run. You run up in a fork - where? Khz, you run at random, after 5 meters the arrow in the asphalt, they say - guessed, I chose the right direction. Okay, it wasn’t possible to block unnecessary tracks with ribbons, so at least put a volunteer on a fork so that he could show where to run with his hand, otherwise he sits in the bushes on a completely straight stretch and screams - come on, come on, you go fifth! Thank you, damn it, very valuable information.

In short, in this very forest at about 28th kilometer, my marathon began. The legs at this point were already very tired, it became hot (about + 17 degrees), however, he continued to run. At the 30th kilometer at the water station, I had to go one step to drink normally. Here was my second remark to the organizers - plastic glasses. Have you ever tried to drink on a run from a plastic cup that cannot be squeezed without fear of breaking? And to drink chur with your mouth, not your nose. Personally, I did not succeed, although I began to try at the previous two water stations (I clearly began to miss my water).

On kilometer number 31.5, my leg was reduced - the right calf muscle. All come. I had to stand a minute. The next time it was reduced to the 34th, there I lost another 2 minutes. In general, the full began Hannover 2016, smoothly turning into Rotterdam 2013. In the sense that I stupidly went one step at the slightest hint of cramps, slowly drank at water stations, and still this somehow did not give vivacity to mind. Imagine how sad I looked that a dude passing by on a bicycle turned around, caught up with me and, holding out a bottle of water and isotonics to me, said - dude, are you ok? You here, hold on, a little left ~ ~, good luck and good mood ~ ~.

Having lasted a few more kilometers and moving to something more or less like running 500 meters to the finish line, I ( from around the corner ) ran into the heart of the glorious city of Amstelveen to the lead - Alexey Peskov, Haarlem!

Having run over the finish gate because of the sprint, both two legs were reduced and I almost fell, but still the same familiar comrade was right there - Are you ok? Well … fucking crimps. I reached the fence and waited until he let go.

After sitting out and drinking water, he went in search of a place to issue things ( finished in another part of the city ). In the process of searching, some dude called me. It turned out that this is the same guy on the bike who treated me to liquid shortly before the finish line. He thanked him again and said that if not for him, I would remain forever in distant Amstelven fields.

Then I found my things, jumped into the shuttle and drove to the start point of the car.

Such a heart-rending story.

The result is 3:15:52. 13th of 169. Interestingly, this is even my second best result :-)

To assess the scale of the tragedy - the pace:

There was little time to disassemble the flights. The ideas are as follows:

  1. It was hot. There is nothing to be done - there were a minimum of clothes. Do not try to put on your under your shorts next time :-)
  2. Perhaps there were too many starts in front of the marathon, which ran to the result and after which did not have time to fully recover. Next time, it’s better to spend a half or two months.
  3. Submarking. It generally turned out to be some kind of mess - two weeks before the start, he ate too much and from 69 kg he ate almost to 73. For the marathon burned only 2 kg. We must carefully teiper.
  4. Sneakers - norms. A hotspot formed on the thumb of the right foot below, but the fingers did not hurt, unlike adizero adios boost, in which the soles are smaller (I will use them only at distances to the half marathon).
  5. In training, you need to carefully monitor the pace. I always want to show myself that you are able to run a little faster than necessary, but in competitions the inability to adhere to the target pace usually goes sideways.
  6. Another friend advised you to try liquid magnesium shots, says it helps him - you eat shortly before the start and no crimps. I’ll try at the next race Wings for life world run.

Threw over a training plan for autumn Frankfurt. I don’t want to throw my head in training right now, so I looked at other options and it seems that I will focus on the 18-week Q2 plan from the same DD that I have not tried before. The plan will need to be started in late June. I’ll probably choose 85 km. Until this time, I’m running the aprons, I’ll recover properly and work on the technique.
